Spinal surgery
Thoracic Spine Surgery
Treating tumours, trauma and deformity of the mid-back.
Overview
The thoracic spine is the least mobile segment but the most narrowly encased around the spinal cord. Surgery is reserved for clear structural problems such as tumour, fracture or progressive deformity.
What it treats
- Thoracic disc herniation with cord compression
- Tumours of the vertebrae or spinal canal
- Thoracic fractures and instability
How it is performed
Approaches range from posterior decompression and instrumentation to minimally invasive lateral approaches, chosen to balance access and morbidity.
Recovery
Hospital stay is three to seven days. A graduated rehabilitation programme is started before discharge.
